I have a new Dell Precision M3800 laptop and I am trying to figure out

hi..
toshiba laptop - running centos/fed
the alt + 0153 isnt working to create the "tm" symbol..
the alt+tab does work to create the windows, so the alt key is enabled..
weird, any thoughts??
