Yes, and if on top of that it would be possible to define an own “compression”
algorithm, which actually does compress + encrypt, then this would be a
non-issue.

It works indeed but encrypting individual messages really influences the batch
compression done by Kafka.
Performance drops to about 1/3 of what it is without (even if we prepare the
encrypted samples upfront).
