I run on UNIX (Sun Solaris 8/9), but
Apache only comes down with the box while doing patches. To rotate
log files, we use cronolog (cronolog.org), which auto-magically switches
to n

What OS?
That would typically be the job of cron (under unix) or the windows
task scheduler on MS-Windows.
