I thought I had! I should have included the .htaccess sample that
generates the error:
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Admin"
AuthBasicProvider dbm
AuthDBMType GDBM
AuthDBMUserFile "/home/httpd/notintree/password"
Require valid-user
Maybe I'm just being daft - if so I need a steer

All passwords, groups etc are in a GDBM file.
The error message is "(70023)This function has not been implemented on
