Prevents Apache from initiating DNS activity for
any reason.
I am now running my server with all DNS blocked
by iptables. Performance is thereby substantially
improved. Fortunately, I usually don't need DNS
for anything else on that box.

Running Apache 2.2 on Fedora 7, I have an environment
variable that is needed in a RewriteCond as well as
elsewhere in a bash script. I would rather not set
it in two places.
Now I was setting it in /etc/bashrc, but it did not
work because, as I just learned, bashrc environment
variables are not

sections that have large sets of identical directives.
If there a way to define a "subroutine" in httpd.config
that can be called in these sections?

For example, in bash the file would contain:
