I am using apache 2.2 with MPM under a very heavy load. Could someone
send me some example settings I should use to improve performance for
MPM?

Can you try assigning the soft limit value to hard limit value and restart
the server.You can put this in apachectl script so that it gets affected for
the shell used for Apache.
