I've compiled a new uml kernel (2.6.11-bs4).
It works fine but in a different way from a precompiled kernel downloaded
from internet.
If I launch the filesystem with the downloaded kernel I can see these lines
in the "ps -fax" output on the host machine:
14028 pts/3S+ 0:09 | \
