Check your /var/log/secure file and /var/log/messages file or where ever you
keep your particular logs. See if you get some sort of can't attach to
/dev/ptms error.
If so there is your problem, you have a devfs issue.
My fix was to recompile with out /dev/fs (the default), insure that linux 98
eryone for your help and thank you to everyone working so
hard on develooping UML. It's really reenergized my interest in linux and
it is a great environment.

ago. Thanks for that post it made things so much easier.
However, when I run ssh, both the included openssh and the ssh.com verion I
get a quote "/dev/ptmx no such file or directory."

The ones on the uml site are helpful but out of date a bit.
I'd be interested possibly in new redhat or centos or slackware images.
I've not figured out the process to make my own yet and had it work.

I have a uml built, with out devfs enabled per the
default.
I'm interested in making other fie systems so
according to the steps I built an empty file
dd if=/dev/zero of=newfilesys seek=256 count=1
bs=1M
which created the proper file
then in th
specific, I've tried the slackware fs and readhat fs as well as
mandrake with all the same results. Again I twittled with this fie but
with no success as well.

Hi, I ran uml on a machine quite a while
successfully and haven't run in to this problem.
I am using kernel v2.6.11 for my uml and fedora 3
on my host machine with v2.6.9, the stock kernel.
I downloaded several root file systems prebuilt
from the uml site and all have the same issue. I s
