I am trying to intercept all system calls just within the kernel layer
(with a 'normal' kernel I would do this by replacing sys_whatever in
the sys_call_table). What would be a good way to go about this in UML?
I would expect that since 'um' is its own architecture in the kernel
tree, that it would

That's 2.6.16 with my patchset in it, including the TLS support which is
now in 2.6.17.

You need to install readline-devel.
So apparently the Fedora image that was on the website didn't work
with the 2.6.16 kernel I downloaded. Once I tried the image with
2.6.17 it worked fine. I think the Fedora image used thread local
storage, and the 2.6.16 kernel didn't support it well.

I followed the instructions on the website to build the kernel, and it
appears to finish making (no build errors) but when I try running it
with this command:
./linux ubda=../FedoraCore5-x86-root_fs mem=128M
It doesn't boot, and gives me this error:
VFS: Mounted root (ext3 filesystem) readonly.

Try this :-
1. Mount UML Root File System on a directory.
2. Comment out the last four lines of /etc/inittab of UML Root File System
3. Insert a line "c0:1235:respawn:/sbin/agett
that is a problem .
i tried to start uml but report a error can't open initial console. and search the mail list . a topic said that compile the uml kernel haven't enable devfs devpts will make this "can't open inital console"
happened . so i tried to make these option enabled , but
