do you have mail server installed on localhost?
can you check "email_queue" db table for any error?
could you check mail server logs for any errors?

I tried with unauthentication SMTP relay and authenticated as well. It works
only when you click the forgot password. It doesn't send any auto emails from
administration portal.
Please let me know how to make it work.
