Works for me like this, using the most recent Hive on AWS, using a ~ delimiter:

row format delimited fields terminated by '~'
stored as textfile
location 's3://mybucket/path/to/data';
> insert overwrite table mydata select * from otherdata;

one. A directory table uses
all files in the directory while a file table uses one specific file and
properly avoids sibling files. My bad.
Thanks for the careful analysis and clarification. TIL!
Cheers!

Thanks for the reply Keith.

certain that it isn't using other files also in that directory as part of the
same table...or if it is currently empty, that if you add a new file to the
directory after creating the table in your described fashion, it doesn't
immediately become visible as part of the table?
on, you have to point to a directory. You cannot point
to a file (IMHO).
Hope that helps

Clearly different, but which is correct? Is there an easier way to load a
single file into a hive table? Or should I just put each file in a directory
and proceed as before?
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm trying to get HWI running and accessible from an Amazon Web Services EMR
instance. I've hit a blocker early on though, and the documentation is less
than illuminating. Can you share any experiences you have had? Specifically,
here's what I'm curious about.

I use the following example to set my own delimiter, I hope it's easy to adjust

Hi,
Is it possible ever to not specify the partition variable name when discovering
partitions? I'm sure I've seen this demonstrated but of course when it's
needed, I can't find it. Can anyone clarify?
I have a number of date-named directories in Amazon AWS S3, containing data

boost::shared_ptr
apache::thrift::TProcessor::eventHandler_
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
