There are two places you should check for the error logs
1) your hivelogs directory
2) the hadoop job logs will exactly tell you what went wrong

Amongst the four query types I mentioned I was at least expecting that the
first one will be optimized. I noticed the hive.optimize.groupby parameter and
I thought this case was sorted out already.
So if I understand you well, the only point in storing a
