Firstly I disabled ipv6 on the server to be sure it wasn't trying to use the
ipv6, but no effect.
I've tried using sstableloader on one of the cassandra nodes, no probem here,
worked perfectly!
So was doubting if the first server was corrupt or something, so I tried on
another server, CentOS 5.
The multi get batches range from 100 to 200.
The tests I'm running need to do get_slices and the multigets on those results.
I can't turn either of them off.
I was only setting 16 threads for reading, but I'll boost it up to 32 and see
what happens.

Perhaps consider using Cassandra and Solr or take a look at

Was this a schema that was created prior to 1.1 ?
What process are you using to create the schema ?
Can you share the logs from system startup ? Up until it logs "Listening for
thrift clients". (if they are long please link to them)

That's a bit tricky. How many nodes, what is the replication and what is the
current rack assignment ?
NTS stripes data over the racks in a DC, looping around until the RF is
reached. If you change the rack assignments there is a chance data will be
lost. Or at least go missing until a repair o

I'd be interested to know what you come up with.

Is Cassandra a fit for this use-case or should we just stick with the

@Aaron: Solr will probably be the solution to our problem. Thank you!
@Radim: We already have a Cassandra cluster, we do not want to add an extra

Hi
Can I use sstableunsortedwriter to write the data directly to hdfs or I have to
use hdfs copyfromlocal to copy the sstable file from local dist to hdfs after

Thanks, Aaron. Moving one node at a time and running repair does seem to
do the trick.

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for getting back to me! Yes, I believe our keyspace was created
prior to 1.1, and I think I also understand why you're asking that, having
found this:

Here's our startup log:

Hi,
We have a single-node cassandra that contains volatile data: every day about 2
Gb of data is written, this data is kept for 7 days and then removed (using
TTL). To avoid that the application becomes slow during a large compaction, we
do a major compaction every night (less users, less perfo
Just stumbled upon this by chance, is it related?

My cluster is currently running with 2 data centers, dc1 and dc2. I would
like to remove dc2 and all its nodes completely. I am using local quorum
for read and right. I figure that I need to change the replication factor
to {dc1:3, dc2:0} before running nodetool decommission on each node in
dc2.
Hi all, newbie here. Be gentle.
From

consistency level. The coordinator will send these requests to the
replicas that are currently responding most
If you read at Consistency of at least quorum, you are guaranteed that
at least one of the nodes has the latest data, and so you get the right
data. If you read with less than quorum it would be possible for all the
nodes that respond to have stale data.

Hi,
i have created 1 node cluster of cassandra 1.0.9. I am setting this up for
testing reads/writes.
I am seeing the following error in the server system.log

For the multithreaded compaction,
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-4182 is relevant.
Basically, because you do a major compaction every night, you do are
in the case of '1 large sstables and a bunch of others', for which the
design of multithreaded compaction won't help too much.

Yes, it's the comparator, not the single quotes. The column_name in
the column_metada is, as the name imply, a column name. Thus is must
