Can you check if the ports are open and you are able to communicate?
UNKNOWN-DC is printed when it is not gossiping with the other node.
I would check the security group settings and verify if the telnet to the
targe port is working as expected.

Thanks Maciej. we have default value for retryDownedHostsDelayInSeconds. I
think it is not about how long it checks the downed host, I suspect the
HostRetryService is down. Below is the very first exception, what does this
message mean - " HConnectionManager returned a null client after
aquisition
Check the latency on the server, use nodetool cfstats. Call it before the
request to recent the "recent" latency.
Then dive into nodetool cfhistogram to see how much effort went into retrieving
the request.

I wonder why the nodes are not in a known DC ? Are you using the property file
snitch or EC2 snitch ? If the DC cannot be identified the NTS will not be able
to find enough nodes to meet the CL.
