When your certificate expires, already installed apps on an iPad will
continue to work, provided that they were bought from the iTunes sture.
Any apps that you installed directly on your iPad, using XCode and a
developers certificate, will stop working shortly after your Apple dev

If you are just using your developer certificate and profile, then ye, it would
expire if you don't keep your account up to date.
Data could be sent to a server, and retrieved by the app, in the same way that
