One of the things I like to do is work on a handler in a button. This allows me to test the handler by simply clicking a button, and it's easy to see that you can insert it into the front if it's something that needs to be called by another handler. Downside is of course, if your script needs to

If I understand correctly, a field is a field is a field. Behavior depends on the properties, so to see if it is a grid field you can check the hgrid of the field. If its true, then the horizontal grid lines are on. Same for vgrid. So a basic table field is just a field with the correct properties
