does every program for editing documents, spreadsheets... have the
same problem or is it just open office?

Okay, I guess I should've troubleshot this more before posting. Openoffice
doesn't do it, only the "built-in" gnome apps (e.g. gedit, gimp and sound
recorder).

Yep, it's metacity. And the focus always gets stolen, no matter what name I
put in.
