This problem - i386/x86_64 arch versions MISMATCH while apt-get upgrade affects MANY packages. I had hit about 20 (sic!) such packages while 11.10 -> 12.04 upgrade. This can be resolved by manually deleting mismatched i386 packages and then apt-get -f install restart. It took about 1,5 hours only s
