Xorg failed to start Nouveau. Instead of seeing my desktop or LightDM I
had to see the Xorg failsafe mode. Sadly even the option "start with a
lower resolution" did not work. This was the second time I experienced
this bug. I rebooted my system and then it was usable again.

nvidia-current I get a black artefact, using nouveau I get a blue
artefact.

"md5sum" takes too much time for me or does not work at all. I've
downloaded the ISO files using Transmission, which should check the hash
automatically. I also tried various disk images (10.04, 10.04.1 64bit,
10.04.1 32bit, 10.10). They work well on other computers, but not on
mine.

I've also tested now Ubuntu 10.04.1 live cd and it works properly (in
contrast to Ubuntu 10.10 live cd, which works not at all). Screen
resolution is also correct (1920*1200). So it seems to be an regression.

I disabled the "nvidia" driver and rebooted the system. It occurred no
kernel panic, as I would expect, but nouveau failed and vesa worked
instead. See the attached log for details.

I've reinstalled Ubuntu using the Ubuntu 10.04.1 live-cd (32-bit) and
then upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with nouveau on my
nvidia ion hardware right now. The bug seems to be somewhere else in the
live-cd, e.g. casper. Therefore I propose to divide my problem from the
