My system freezes every few hours.
I've used ctrl-alt-fn+F1 to switch to another terminal and open a sudo
bash shell and then back to my 64 bit 12.04 LTS Ubuntu Desktop (Lenovo
Thinkpad E520) to keep working as long as possible before having to do a
hard reboot.

WTF? This is still unassigned? I would report the bug(s) to a package,
but I can't figure out which package is best positioned to fix it.
Freezes are less frequent with 2d Ubuntu and fewer apps running. Running
Lenovo E520 laptop with 64 bit 12.04 LTS Ubuntu. Ran well before upgrade
to 12.04 LTS.
