I am simply filing this here because the machine is mostly unusable and a more

I raised a bug which I think is a duplicate of this bug. Mine is #993405 and is
now marked as a duplicate of this bug.
In my machine (details at my bug entry) the display got impossible and I was
considering a reinstall, but I then remembered I had used nomodeset
successfully on other old mach
FWIW I am running oneiric alpha2 and it works ok in the problem machine.
The alpha2 image is oversize so for a live session a dvd or a USB is
needed. I installed it too, still ok, and subsequent updates are also
looking good. hth

Sorry I only use Ubuntu at present and have not tried Fedora or Gnome3 items

Thanks, I have a number of photos (9) and a short video from a live session. I

I again ran the natty beta2 live CD but this time I used F6 from the initial
live CD boot menu and edited the boot string to include
nomodeset
as it happens, I also chose to mark nomodeset in the F6 options, and I also
removed
quiet splash
from the string also, if it makes any difference I don'
affects a relative of mine who is a school administrator. had a very
unfortunate affect of turning him away from ubuntu.
