ok I have been using my laptop mostly, so today I turned on the
desktop, downloaded several weeks worth of Ubuntu updates... rebooted
the machine...
switched from "no visual effects" to "normal visual effects" .. and
the machine locked up within 12 seconds.. same hardcore lockup where

By removing Compiz the computer acts as expected.. meaning that it does
work similar to running it in Gnome Failsafe

I read though those bug reports, but the problem is that this one is
differing in the fact that the machine completely locks up.
One of them below says the guy can move the mouse, the other one only
happens when he rotates the cube, our bug is a true hard core lockup
where you can't do anything
