This specific hardware configuration I've used with Ubuntu 12.04
"Precise".
I've used Ubuntu since 4.10 "Warty" basically upgrading my hardware
gradually over the years but I don't recall getting this particular
issue before.

Tested with kernel v3.7-rc2-raring and keyboard doesn't work at all. Not
even detaching and reattaching the keyboard works.
Just to be sure I'm doing this right: Do I need to install linux-image-
extra? Or, is simply testing with linux-image enough? I tested without
-extra.

Ran with today's daily image for about 40 minutes. Looks good. No
artefacts appeared.
Looks like this is indeed fixed.
