lightdm starts a syndameon instance which is not terminated upon session
startup.
So there is the conflict: two syndaemon instances, one from lightdm and one
from logged in user.
Just experienced this problem after going from gdm back to lightdm.
This does not happen with gdm.

Oh, and this workaround should be fine for all:
In terminal:
sudo killall -u lightdm syndaemon
synclient Touchpadoff=0

well, it does, though I did not check if the freeze reoccurs after some
time, or if it is viable as a workaround for the complete session.
On Gentoo, I'm using the intel driver _with_ SNA acceleration on a
Haswell system without issues. I'm using snapshot of the driver as
recent as February 24th.

Version 295.33 fixed the error for me.
Had to manually add 'ignoreABI' flag to xorg.conf but after that unity 3d works.
I have attached my Xorg.0.log file.

Disabled SNA like suggested in comment #40 and that fixed the problem
for me. This was serious for me, as playing a video in VLC (and maybe
moving the window or seeking in the video) would crash X within a few
seconds.

I notice that when I use the latest FGLRX drivers from AMD (8.881), I
have to disable Tear Free Desktop in the AMD Catalyst Control Center and
enable Sync To VBlank at the CompizConfig Settings Manager.
Only then does my desktop run smooth.

I'm still not sure if toggling vsync on/off inside an application is

Hi,
I could fix prevent kdm from crashing by installing "xfce4" and setting the
alternatives
- x-session-manager to /usr/bin/startkde
- x-window-manager to /usr/bin/kwin
it do not make sense but it's working. I got to it, as my NFS-server
wasn't up and I only could login to "failsafe"-mode. A
