I had an X crash today. fresh Karmic install on 11-05.
For a while I used 3D, but now I disabled visual effects.
When I clicked a button on skype, X crashed.

I changed my card to ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AR [Radeon 9600] the same
problem exist.
And the same problem with foobillard, and ppracer too.
