Same problem with an ATI Technologies Inc RS480 [Radeon Xpress 200G Series].
Open Dash and just move cursor over icons a few times and the Kernel crashes.
Verified by no ssh into computer.

Start kernel with nomodeset and graphics corruption stops but then no
video in totem except for full screen.

Removing virtualbox-ose did not help. Downgrading to GLX version: 1.2
appears to fix it.
