Fixes for GX2 support probably need to be backported to Jaunty and
Intrepid, maybe even Hardy. However, I have no GX2 hardware to test
with (I only have GX1 and LX hardware on hand), so I'm unable to verify
which Ubuntu releases need this fix backported.

Unless I'm mistaken, package 2.11.7-3 solves this issue (see the
upstream X.org bug for details).
The fix we use is just a better trap for possible EXA Composite errors.
It is not the complete solution, but it at least restores usability with
the Geode driver's default settings.

Steve,
All required fixes were already applied to the -nsc that ships with
Hardy. It is thus presumed that people upgrading from Hardy all the way
up to Jaunty have all the fixes in place and thus we don't really need
the versioned conflict anymore.
Meanwhile, Lucid doesn't ship -nsc because beca

While temporarily purging -geode for a test, I noticed that -VESA fails
to detect this display's 1280x1024 resolution and instead falls back to
some ridiculously small 800x600 resolution.

This is a -geode specific regression. For instance, icons show as

Since upgrading from Karmic, -intel no longer restores the display after
waking up from suspend.
A quick work-around seems to be to switch to a vcons e.g. CRTL+ALT+F1
and then switch back to tty7, where X is running.

Oddly enough, since yesterday, the display is restored most of the time,
using whatever is in Lucid. I haven't been able to figure out an exact
pattern as to when it is not restored, but this is already an
improvement over the previous two months.
