It may be easier to download the alternate install CD then choosing to
boot to a recovery console after installing. Once at the console, you
can install the Radeon drivers and then 10.04 will boot properly. This
is what I had to do to get it installed. Unfortunately, vsync is
completel
that way until playback is stopped and restarted
again from the menu.

you think this is fixed, than I can re-enable them.

Discovered that a lot of this bug was caused by the un-packaged files in
/etc created by a udhcp installation that I did for my local virtual
machines just before the upgrade. Removing those files (and a few
others from the regular dhcp package) fixed the problem.

I was having similar problem but caused by random mouse hover overs
rather than text entry. Will see if it happens again after applying
this patch.

Alas, I don't have access to the original iBook G4 hardware anymore. My
understanding of the current xorg stack is too limited to judge if this
kind of user experience issue still exists on 10.04 or newer Ubuntu
versions.
