Here's my failsafe .tar. It's far more informative than any of that

Wildcards/bitmasks aren't necessarily a solution. There is hardware
that is made by NVIDIA that doesn't work with NV, so if you just match
on NVIDIA as a vendor, you are shooting yourself in the foot.
The best solution is:
* Submit your IDs upstream, and then we can pull a patch..

This is invalid, but not for that particular reason.
The packages created from the AMD website are identical to those that
are in the archive. They both are generated from the same source
package intermediary.

Hi Robert:
I've removed the nv.ids from /usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci (if there was
more that your package does, i'll add your package on too - it's just
harder to test from a PPA behind a network requiring proxy
authentication).
Still have failures, here's the Xorg.0.log from that scenario:

This bug only happens when using nvidia graphics drivers with firefox
newer than 3.1. It was caused by a *firefox* code change as it works
properly with older firefox and all other variables constant.
