X has started crashing relatively regularly on me. I cannot reproduce it
but I have been using firefox each time it has crashed, but I assume
that this is coincidence. I get the following backtrace on screen:

I am beginning to think that the crash is caused by firefox as it often
happens while I am typing in the firefox address bar. Also gconf cannot
be contacted after the crash. Bug 557514 mentions this but is fixed in
Maverick so should not be present.

I can't recreate the crash using sm. But it has now happened while I was

I have stopped using the nvidia drivers and started using the nouveau
drivers and updated to Maverick but I'm still seeing this issue.
However, now, instead of seeing a "corrupted" screen on killing X, I see
no change, ie, X seems to hang. However, the same is still true, I can
switch to tty 1 and
For me just removing xorg.conf worked.
