Then we are relying on your powers of observation and description to
identify the cause and effect. One key question is whether this effect
is periodic? In which case does 'echo 0 >
/sys/modules/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll' help?

Looks like another mesa bug, if you have a clear set of reproduction
steps (as it looks like you do) I would open a fresh bug.

Your libdrm_intel has not been patched to recognise these Haswell chips
and neither has mesa. In the ddx, sna does not depend upon libdrm_intel
and will work regardless.

That command disables the kernel polling for new outputs, it should be
using hardware interrupts anyway.
Another thing you can try is whether change cpufreq scaling governor
makes a difference, in particular using performance. For instance, the
memory clocks are driven by the CPU clock so as cpufr
@Mark, you have a gen3 device which has no known issues with Xv, this
bug report is about a gen6 device which still has instability when using
rc6 (new hardware feature on gen6).

It is suspicious that it would only appear to fail whilst the monitor is
off - that suggests we are missing a required wait for one of the
control lines to power up.
Can you please 'echo 6 > /sys/modules/drm/parameters/debug' then xset

I guess the significant feature of 3.8 is that it enables vsync on
Sandybridge. But can you try 3.10 to rule out a few more known bugs (see

You don't have HD4000 graphics, nor described what the actual issue is
that you face. Can you please elaborate? The log files are with
nomodeset and so useless for debugging a driver issue.
