The problem occurs for me while I wasn't using my computer. Gnome put the
monitor into standby.
After moving my mouse the screen came back but it was like frozen. I could
click on a launcher but it showed no reaction.

As it seems something is going wrong with rendering in RevengeOfTheTitans.
The flickering always happens not only in fullscreen mode.
It also happens in unity2d.
I haven't seen any problems with WorldOfGoo or Osmos so far.

Most noticeable is, that my mouse hangs every 30 sec.
How I reproduce this problem and make it visible:
1. start glxgears
2. move the mouse in circles
3. mouse should hang every 30 sec. you should also see a drop in fps in glxgears

As it seems this problem comes from the CRT hotplug detection.
I have booted the kernel with this option "drm.debug=0x06" and now I see this
message in my logs:

Looks like /etc/X11/Xsession is not executed, but the files in
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/ are sourced somehow. My best guess is that there's
some other mechanism emulating Xsession's behaviour but without defining
has_option.
Maybe this is a pending bug introduced in an earlier version of Ubuntu

As a workaround, I created the file 01x11-has_option (find it attached)
and placed it in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/. It defines has_option unless it
is already defined somewhere else. ssh-agent now runs in the background

Upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 and using nvidia-current with a 8600gtm
with unity and twinview with external monitor.
I had some sort of this "puzzle" on the external monitor since oneiric.
Now its on both screens but IIRC its just black and gray and not the things
from the last login.

Yes, the bug is still in natty. Dell E6500 1400x900 and Dell U2410 1920x1200
both have aspect 16/10.
Still, first common resolution algorithm is used, despite the fact that in
this case a 4/3 one is the first
math and both displays are therefore either scaled/black-bordered. ==> Visually
