I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 with fglrx-updates 2:15.200-0ubuntu4.2 and if I'm
trying to switch from the desktop environment to the console the screen
stays black until I'm switching back to the desktop.

It seems to have been caused by a logic error that was only calling
CompositeRedirectSubwindows for windows without a parent. I couldn't see
any reason why this should be the case and calling this for all windows
seems to fix xeyes.
