Driver packages are not multi-arch. The 64 bit package provides both 64
bit and 32 bit libraries. The empty alternative is meant to avoid that,
when nvidia is installed, users end up using nvidia's 64 bit libraries
and mesa's 32 bit libraries.

I am using Bumblebee, but I have everything working now. The alternatives are
pointing to the Mesa GL libraries, nvidia-331 installed and
libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 installed (though it's not installed by default nor by
bumblebee, so I reported Bug #1383909 there).

I have came across something that may interest you, here [1]. The Dell
support person there states that you should have the DSP 1.2 enabled
only on the primary monitor, on the secondary it should be disabled.

So yes, I founded that thread too and cleared my doubts about it. I had
my monitors configuration that way while testing the patched kernels

I thought that /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf was used only for 64-bit,
but it is indeed used for 32-bit as well.
Same thing for /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf, which point to both 64 and
32 bit mesa libraries.

I can confirm this very annoying bug with i915 driver (on Lenovo x220).
It creates all sorts of graphical difficulties in Chromium (no vsync, no
interpolation of fullscreen videos, and of course no WebGL)
LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1 is a good fix.
