GTK+2 fonts corruption
as per git, the commit is applied for the version 2.99.910. I have this version
installed.
But the problem is still there, see the screenshot. Interestingly, the fonts
are heavily corrupted in GTK+2 apps. QT/efl apps are fine. GTK+3 apps mainly
ok

Reportin first test with AMD drivers. With AMD GPU enabled, I have massive
screen corruption if I enable both monitors. If I only enable one, corruption
is no longer present, however spontaneous switching/mirroring occurs.
Will now switch to Intel GPU and report back.

I too have an uneven amount of memory installed (7 GiB). It's an old
workhorse for office usage only, so dual-channel doesn't matter.

We have a known issue in that we don't detect the swizzling correctly
and so we may end up with corruption if objects

I have the same issue with Intel Celeron 1037U CPU. VLC and Totem works
fine. I played aroud with all the settings in compiz and xbmc without
any results. Is downgrading a viable short term solution?

Xorg crashed with SIGABRT i
Reinstall 14.04 from the 3/18/14 gnome daily build and do not see the
above problem. Have rebooted and no hangs have occurred. The lshw -c
display is as expected (no UNCLAIMED). Display appears normal.

Still seeing this in nvidia-settings version 331.20 from the xorg-edgers
PPA on Xubuntu 12.10. I updated the title to make it less version
specific.

update:
after several hours of testing glxgears on Linux Mint 15 kernel 3.8.0 the
system did not freeze until today,
around 3 min of glxgears usage the system froze extacly like xubuntu.
I will install an older distribution on the test partition to check for
stability.

It seems the problem is caused by the backing store function of xorg. It
is disabled by default in 1.14.5 and enabled by default in 1.15.0. If I
disable it with -bs on xorg startup, I have no tearing with 1.15.0.

better in 14.04 then before.

@Thomas I tried the package is in your ppa, gives no image on the screen
as if the screen turn off. The only novelty is that if you can access
the TTY console.
