Thanks for the response. That laptop now has Debian Wheezy on it (which
works fine). I will get it back and try as you suggest.

Micro$oft free since 5 August 2007 and never looked
I had a problem earlier today and wiped the drive with Trusty installed.
I have re-installed and fully updated but no longer see this fault.
Pleas hold until I can see any further problems.
