segfaults on startup. This fix, which apparently works for those with
Nvidia graphics drivers, is ineffective. Skype still crashes for me with
intel graphics.

Exactly the same problem here (XPS 1640) on a fresh install (livecd boot
without problem, but as soon the system is installed on the disk, it
doesn't boot...) I have a dark screen instead on the login screen. In

Thanks for the advice, Chris! The --newmode/--addmode arguments will be
very useful. I do want to use that mode quite badly, as the display
represents all other resolutions I tried (of which there were many on
the older kernels) very badly.
I presently cannot remember on what basis I concluded tha

Watch out! Unity stopped working for me! I had to log off, get on the GNOME
fallback, install the AMD driver again and reboot. Now Unity works again but
skype is crashing again too...
Now I can choose between Unity and skype but not both at the same time...

Another touch problem: If I run Chromium browser and try to drag and
drop one of the tabs using the touch screen, the left button gets stuck
down and it does not get even unstuck if I continue working with the

With LibreOffice Writer I can reproduce the crash reliably. Right after
login I touch-click its icon in the Launcher, get the dialog to recover
the document of the previous session, I reject, and as soon as I click
"Yes" to confirm, X crashes, a

Finally I succeeded to make X crashing again, I opened several programs
(Firefox, Chromium, Thunderbird, Calculator, digikam), did some clicks
in them, and closed them again. Then I opened LibreOffice Writer via the
Launcher and got a window ask
Note: In the last two comments (and also in my other tests), I did all
operations by touch clicking (if not otherwise stated).

JG, the solution you linked is very similar to what I did (building
latest fglrx .deb packages + downgrading the intel video server).
Please report if it works, since the linked .deb for the intel server
seems to be the same version as the one provided in raring by default (I

Switching to fglr
I've had the same issue but upon waiting for kubuntu to load i wait once
it goes black enter my password and it goes into kubuntu with my screen
fully loading so i assume it would be an issue with the kdm or whatever
it is to get to the login screen.
