dealing with this. There have been some patches on the mailing list
splitting up the libraries further than we already do now. I'm unsure
whether they've actually landed or not, but it is very likely going to
be in for 9.1.

Hello,
does anyone know whether it is safe for now (and the future) to update
xserver-xorg and its dependencies to the newest versions without breaking
compatibility with the nvidia-96 branch of gfx drivers?
I am so happy that I was able to make my old NV18 gpu running on a fresh
install of LT
It was marked as a dupe because the bug seems to provoke the same kind
of crash in Xorg (same stack trace). I guess I can test the error
handling in Xorg at least.

The "display is jerky in Precise 64 bits but not in the 32 bits version.
By "display is jerky" I mean:
1. Jerky playback with gmplayer: the image refreshes a few times per
second but not 24-30 times as it should. The result is a jerky movement.
2. When moving or resizing
The new packages do seem to help! :-)
I downloaded and installed the new libxrandr2 packages (i386 and amd64)
from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxrandr and they do indeed
seem to resolve this issue.

tagged as fixed. If LTS does not mean fixes are released for it, what

We've carried this patch for a few years, meantime a number of
improvements have been made to upstream handling of multi-GPU.
We're going to optimistically drop this patch in hopes that whatever
situation led to the crash are long since gone. This bug is kind of a

My system with the same problem has "CN700/P4M800 Pro/P4M800 CE/VN800

Worked fine in 12.04 but after upgrade to 12.10 I get a brief flash of
the splash screen followed by no video and no keyboard. Remot

It was closed because this this specific bug was fixed a long time ago,
just because your symptoms match doesn't mean its the same bug, it could
be a regression in newer versions. This isn't a generic bug for
rendering problems when using xorg-edgers, please do file new bugs if
you do decide to use
