For the record, I have run 3.7.0-4 with i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 for more
than 24 hours in sum without a single freeze. So I confirm Timo's theory

After kernel update from 3.5 to 3.7 none of the 3 available drivers work on
HP Pavilion dv6000, nVidia Graphics.
Using one of the two proprietary drivers, screen resolution is set to
1024x768 and login is possible only under gnome interface.

Just tested on Raring, no more artifacts and missing icons (new version
of nouveau driver seems to have fixed).
