I am really at the end of my patience here, my system is a E350 Sony
laptop (AMD/HD6300), it has happily been freezing continuously for the
past months almost daily, i tried everything, countless kernel
variations, reinstalls, fucked around with Flash, with the thermal.off
flag, manually installed
I don't know If this will help identify the bug but I had the same
problem on 64bit Ubuntu 12.04 running unity and gnome. I use this
computer for work so out of desparation I tried Xubuntu 12.04 which
works without any problems on the same system.

Yes, but I can't remember exactly which version this broke on. It definitely
worked all through 12.04 and in 12.10 up until whatever upgrade I happened to
do on-or-about 2012-08-
FWIW, the 3.6.0-030600rc4-generic kernel seems supremely unhappy. No
graphics at all.

it seems that ppc is having a problem with X, too, but i don't think
it's the same problem. furthermore, i don't think any apple computer (i
realize there are other ppc machines out there but they tend to be more
rare) ever had a chipset supported by openchrome. someone correct me if
i'm wrong. but
I tested a few of the older mainline kernels going right back to 3.4.0,
and vmwgfx fails to auto-load on all of the ones I tested.

It depends on how fast you want to confirm this is actually fixed or
not. I'm not surprised Ubuntu doesn't have an updated package yet, I've
uploaded the new release less than 24 hours ago ;-)

I'm a newbie here, and most of this is going way over my head.
However I've been having trouble with Lubuntu 12.10 (PPC desktop) for
the past few days, right up to today's build (Sept 5).
1) wireless network applet on the lower task bar appears to be dead.
When I click on it, nothing happens.

Now I switched to Nvidia graphics (from intel integrated graphics), and
the freeze problem never appear any more. However, I think this should
be a workaround instead of a solution.
