Argh! Lost data today from a Xorg-crash because xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics had been upgraded even though locked in Synaptic. It seems
unattended-upgrades don't care about that version lock.
This solves that, create /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99unattended-upgrades with
this content:

Two tests have confirmed that the nvidia driver DKMS package security patches
are the cause of the breakage to nvclock/smartdimmer. The upshot is that maybe
'nvclock' should be removed from the archives since the security patches
appear sane and are important to protect most users.

I would argue that this doesn't warrant a release note because this is
not a feature that we advertise anywhere as being usable (or if we do,
that's something we should correct!). If users are *lucky*, having an
alternate CD to hand for upgrading the desktop will save them a
CD's-worth of package

XDM starts, I am logging in. I log in a few times unsuccessfully (wrong
password). Then switch to tty1 and see my username and password in the
console.
It seems like I am typing my credentials to both: XDM and tty1.
