When I had this kind of bug I found mine was a KMS problem in the
kernel. And I found it was fixed in kernel 3.1 and later (hence fixed in
Ubuntu 12.04 and later). See bug 865097.

I am thinking that by using SWCursor option in X Server I can eliminate video
driver compatibility issues.
There are few posts on forum but nether one pointed to config file available in
Ubuntu 12.
Could you advice if assumption that SWCursor option bypass rendering
mouse pointer (cursor) by spe
The problem appears to be caused by the window manager or compositor. On
request from NVIDIA, I disabled the window manager on the affected
machine and ran a raw X server:
sudo service lightdm stop
sudo Xorg &
xlogo &
and then ran glxgears full-screen:
glxgears -geometry 2400x1900+10+10

is no point in upgrading if a bug like this makes it unusable.

Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative
keyboard

I have experienced the 'white screeen of death' in 11.04 and 11.10.
I have blacklisted the 'nouveau' driver for nVidia, but still get white screens.
I get white screens with and without the noveau driver; with and without compiz.
