I can now say that, when the corruption occurs, as soon as I press
Enter, I am thrown back to the login screen (and then the bug is gone).
I have disabled the automatic login in Ubuntu (btw, changing account
settings crashes Gnome Shell: panel and window decorations disappear,
and it no longer res

FWIW my notebook has both a trackpad and a pointing stick, both with
their own buttons. The trackpad and buttons stops working, but the

Posting from a Dell Vostro 1500 here. Synclient touchpadoff=0 works for
me to resolve the unresponsive mouse issue. Per the previous comments
about multiple instances of syndaemon, I went ahead and checked and it

Bug 774094 sounds very similar, except that regression apparently
happened between 10.10 and 11.04. Whereas this one seems to have
happened between 11.04 and 11.10.
