I finally got a screenshot!
On the third screen you can see almost my complete first screen desktop.
And on the fourth screen you can see an "ajax-loader.gif" with all it's
animation frames. Is this coming from arbitrary graphics memory? It
sounds more and more like a big security issue.

I know this is old and most of you must be running 11.10 now, but I just
installed 11.04 and I'm having this problem. The last version of
libcairo2 in the repos is 1.11.3, which gives me a ram usage about 1.5Gb
just after login. I've forced version 1.10.2 and everything is fine now,
ram under 500Mb
After upgrading to oneiric, I experienced another problem. Everything works
fine with an old flat monitor with res 1280x1024.
On a large monitor (1920x1200, IIyama) the screen is flickering/flashing. There
was many messages in Xorg.0.log like that:

I'm going to go ahead and close out the mesa task. Since I notice the
unity/nux tasks are marked fix committed so presumably they found and
fixed an error there. If there is indeed some work to be done in mesa,
please elaborate and reopen the mesa task and we can investigate
further.

The truth does not understand why there are so few gestures. Same
happens to me I have a Samsung QX411, and only reconose simple gestures
like scrolling with two fingers.
I would like to see more gestures, and is a complete torture alone, left
click, or click central!

I can confirm that the gpu lockup only occures on my intel machine. I've test
it on nvidia and ati and there are no problems so far.
It must be an issue in the intel-driver like Sebastien wrote.
