Unfortunately, for me, this seems typical as I have other confirmed bugs
in from the beginning of the year and nothing has been done.
The work around seems to work for me as it only seems to affect 32bit

I have the exact same problem here. I also installed Ubuntu 11.10 (i
used the "Beta 1 LiveCD" but my packages are all up to date at the

When clicking some apps like vlc, xorg claims all ram and swap. The desktop
turns to a still image, video stops, sounds stops, the harddisk led lights
continuesly. This is the same effect as in 826504, but not in the intel driver.
