Marking this as a papercut is not going to help getting the
package in the repo. You should instead mark the package that is fixed as fix
committed. This way package maintainers know that a fix is available for this
bug and it may give them a reason to update the package.
Update - tested Suspend which works correctly and backlight comes back
on. However then get errors with gnome-power-manager showing 2 battery
icons (one empty one in red) and the System cog shows "Restart to
complete updates" in red also.

Picard works for me with the ppa _if_ I first move the old config away.
With it, it'll start in fullscreen mode and works fine until I put it in
windowed mode. Then I need to kill picard, which results in compiz
crashing and needing a restart. Haven't been able to reproduce it with a
clean config.
UPDATE: The mods suggested above sadly did not help with Natty. I've
done a total, clean install of 10.04 LTS UbuntuStudio (as I wanted the
low-latency kernel for music apps).
With UbuntuStudio 10.04:
* Video so far works now without a hitch, straight out of the box with my ATI
RV370 [Radeon X300

Ok probably I specify the problem wrong. So it is a problem with libGL version
of NVidia proprietary driver and the open source one.
In fact I cannot uninstall nvidia driver since I have an Optimus laptop, where
I use the discrete card with Ironhide.

Tried oneiric daily build 2011-09-20 i386, same results. ISOlinux boot
menus work, startup and shutdown splash screens work, text consoles
work, in X the mouse is OK, but the unity bar, task bar, and application
windows are squished/stripey/unreadable. I presume this means that vesa
modes are OK
Could you try booting with 'drm.debug=0xe' and attach the dmesg log here
(or on the upstream bug, if possible).

A bit of errata: I took this report as chance to watch the behaviour in
Natty more closely, and I have to admit that the described
slowness/lagginess of the dash can also be seen in Natty, allthough a

Seems to happen only running VirtualBox with Microsoft XP guest.
I run dual monitors (Dell Latitude D820 and a Dell external monitor. Machine
will crash no matter which display VirtualBox is running on.
I made a similar report on Bug 577487.
Workaround: Do not leave computer idle with VirtualBox
I experience a similar bug.
I run VirtualBox with a Microsoft XP guest under Ubuntu 10.04 (Gnome). When I

[eDP1] 5 second delay between Xorg starting
Ok i will try it... I also found an other way to make it work:
I plug it , I launch a virtual windows in Virtualbox and i redirect the
pad to the windows... and then there is no mouse problem
