If a use-case worked in 10.10 and now does not work in 11.04 (monitor

I have tried that xorg.conf-Fix (Option "RegistryDwords"
"EnableBrightnessControl=1") but no change. Without the nvidia-drivers
(Package nvidia-current and -settings) brightness works again ([FN] +
[Up] or [Down])
As this is a major problem i hope for a quick solution/fix.

I installed kernel 2.6.39 and it too fixed the problem on my ThinkPad
T410 such i can use it with my docks again, with different
configurations.
But the machine has been significantly slower and it has introduced
crashes. Is this because of the PPA software? Debug mode or something
the like?

under 10.10 and isn't expected to work until the nvidia drivers support
XRandR 1.2.

Yep. I had the same, the only solution to get up workable compiz on new
ubuntu is to install older NVIDIA drivers, it works good with 173
version for me.

Also one thing is *weird* to me: if I select another driver than nouveau (using
jockey) it will be installed.
Then after the reboot, if I launch jockey again I don't see nouveau in list
anymore, even reinstalling nouveau* from apt.
I'm using GeForce Go7400 on my HP Laptop.
