After filing my last comment above, I moved to Debian Lenny on that
machine, and so I no longer have easy access to Ubuntu. My newer
machine (also Debian) doesn't even have nvidia hardware.

For my part this turned out to be a die bonding error that HP knew was a
problem with my laptop, but it took me literally over a day on the phone to

It is still present, i've tried dmesg and xev, neither give anything
when i click any of the function keys nor special keys.

Title:
nvidia-settings crashed with SIGSEGV in
I no longer have either the affected computer or Ubuntu so I can't
comment on the status of this bug. I will comment that this version of
Ubuntu led me to use Win 7 exclusively for almost a year!
I'd be happy to update the status IF I could only find out how!
