The Gdm log 2 has a backtrace that does appear to be what gets shown
when there's a gpu hang, however no gpu lockup error numbers are shown
in the dmesg as usual.

Can you attach the output of xrandr --verbose from Maverick when it's
working. I'd like to see the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from that case as
well.
Also, on natty please turn on drm debugging. You can do this using the
xdiagnose utility, it's the first checkbox in the dialog. Reboot and
then reprodu
It was the first time for this sort of failure, but it actually wasn't a
system freeze: I could switch to virtual consoles and back, but no
amount of trying to restart unity would work; each time compiz would

work with natty, that sucks.
However, what we need for diagnosing these kinds of problems are
detailed steps and logs collected along the way showing what went wrong
