using the older kernel (the one from natty beta2) and it did not fix the

OK, I might have gotten some interesting data. First, I should explain. I
decided gain (after a couple years) to switch to fglrx and see how it works.
Last time it was also very buggy but in more annoying way...
So I installed fglrx and it... didn't giving me configure errors with my custom
kern
I'm using Kubuntu 11.04beta2 and I'm affected. Stellarium flickers badly
when I open preferences and I'm asked to give a path to screenshots.
When I exit the applications then entire desktop flickers too. I have to
restart compositions to make it to behave normally.

area. I can also switch to vt and when I restart KDM everything is fine.

@Bryce Harrington: The problem parsing the file is another very strange
problem, it occurs "sometimes", and other times I can boot normally as
right now. By this reason I will try to install Beta 2 (to see if it's
something already fixed). I also thought that it was a typo in my
xorg.conf but right
Confirmed still an issue. My Specs: ati x1300 non-proprietary driver in dual
head setup using Ubuntu Beta 2 (affects only my DVI out not VGA)
Constant filckering every approx 20 secs.

I'm rather new to Linux, so please bear with me. I tried changing the "Visual
Effects" and it asked me to install the graphics card driver, which is agreed
to. It failed a little later after trying to download the driver.

This bug no longer affects me after upgrading to the kernel Bryce
suggested. Occasionally a GPU lockup occurs, but the error code is
different, indicating it is a different problem. Regardless, the lockup
occurs much less frequently and looks different (flickering windows as
opposed to glitchy wash
Check if you have anything in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
Also check the timestamp on your Xorg.1.log to make sure it's not just a
left over from some earlier boot.

Derrick, what version of upower do you have running? Try killing the
upowerd process and see if that makes it stop.

Okay thanks for following up. We've put some various fixes in for gpu
lockups recently so possibly one of those fixes resolved this.
Please file a new bug report if you see another gpu lockup like this.
